About Nancy

Place Stanislas

Nancy is known around the world for its 18th-century squares inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Surrounded by magnificent buildings, fountains and gilded gates, Place Stanislas is one of the most beautiful royal squares in Europe.

Porte de la Craffe

The city also boasts a remarkable Renaissance town which has changed little over the centuries. Paved streets, small shops and cafés make it a delightful area to stroll.

Art Nouveau artwork

At the turn of the 20th century, the School of Nancy became a vibrant center of Art Nouveau whose art and architecture rivaled Paris and other European capitals. Many Art Nouveau buildings and a unique Art Nouveau museum can still be seen today.

Macarons

On the gastronomy side, the city is renowned for its original macaron recipe invented in 1792, as well as for its bergamote sweets and its mirabelle plums.

Travel information

The fastest way from Florence is to fly to Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) airport. There, you have two options:

  • take a taxi from CDG airport to Paris Gare de l’Est train station (30 min off-peak, longer at peak times) then a TGV train to Nancy (6 to 10 trains/day, 1h30 duration)
  • take a TGV train directly from CDG airport to Lorraine TGV station (4 trains/day, 1h15 duration) then a bus or a taxi to Nancy (30 min)

Depending on the time of arrival of your flight, one or the other option may be more convenient. Paris CDG airport is also the most convenient option to fly back home.

To come to Inria from Nancy train station, take tramway T1 bound to Vandoeuvre and step off at the stop Callot. Head in the direction of Lycée Jacques Callot then towards the “Campus Sciences”, go through the campus access barrier and cross the car park to Inria (see map below, click to enlarge). Count 25 min in total.

If you are staying in another part of the city, you may also be able to take bus number 8 bound to Vandoeuvre CHU Brabois and step off at the stop Grande Corvée. Inria is just on the other side of the road.
